We're home now. Check out some of what we actually did on our photo page.
Spend lots of time playing with Joyce (middle of photo). Also do some relaxing and shopping and sight-seeing.
Arrive in Paris 1:20. Avis pick us up from airport. Pick up van and drive to Jargeau (famous for andouille!). Shopping and settling in to van. Maybe wander into town for dinner.
Leave Jargeau early morning. Leisurely drive along river to check out castles and chateaus. 1st stop at Chateau de Chenonceau probably for 1-1/2 hours. 2nd stop at Amboise for lunch at Caveau des Vignerons d'Amboise (and to sample local wines). Then head to Tours to book campsite for Sunday night, before heading north to Le Mans. Go to race track to buy tickets and try to get camp site. Need to arrive early enough to find somewhere else to camp if the track site is full.
Yay!
Yay! After race, head south to Tours for the night.
Start early morning. Stop for lunch at Cognac (near Saintes) and tour one of the distilleries (check with tourist office to see which ones are open). Drive to Perigueux, camping at Perigueux. Check out Perigueux late afternoon/early evening … old town (medieval) and Renaissance quarter.
Start early morning. Drive to Montignac to get tickets for Lascaux. Rest of day will depend on what time tour we're able to take of the caves. If there's time, follow the rivers to Sarlat (check out La Roque Gageac and Domme). Get to Sarlat in time to explore the town. Camping at Sarlat (potential Camping Les Perieres, Route de Ste-Nathalene).
Early morning market in Sarlat, and may want to spend a bit of time exploring the town. Then head to Lacave for anniversary lunch at Le Pont de l'Ouysse. Head south to Rocamadour and camp at Rocamadour. Depending on how we feel, may do some sight-seeing this afternoon … or may just kick back and digest lunch!
Do any remaining sight-seeing at Rocamadour. Also may go to look at Castelnau-Bretenoux. Head to Carcassonne via Tarn, stopping at either Albi or Castres for lunch. Camping in Carcassonne. Go into the town during the evening to see it all lit up.
Spend the morning exploring Carcassonne old town. Then drive to Avignon via Arles (maybe stop there for lunch). Camping in Avignon. Depending on what time we get in, may do some sight-seeing in the old town during the afternoon/evening.
Spend the morning exploring Avignon (maybe do the 2 hour guided tour). Then head up to the mountains to Grenoble (via Orange). Lots of nice mountain driving. Camp in Grenoble.
Depending on weather, start the day by heading to the lookout at Les Deux Alpes. Drive through Briancon into Italy. Yay! Drive through the mountains to Turin. Camp in Turin. Chances are that not much will be open on a Sunday.
Tour around Turin in the morning (check out Piazza Castello). Must have coffee and chocolate while we're here. Drive to Genoa via Alba (medieval city with truffles) and Barolo (to drink wine). Camp the night at Genoa. Head into town to sight-see and get Dave some pesto!
Early morning start. Head along coast and maybe stop at Camogli and Portofino (depends on what time it is, and how long it takes to get in). Afterwards, head north to Parma (ham and cheese) and Modena (balsamic vinegar). We're visiting during the Balsamico festival, so check with the tourist office to see what festival things we can do. We may also be able to tour of a parmesan factory. After checking at the tourist office, we'll decide where to camp for the night.
Maybe do a Balsamico festival thing or cheese tour this morning. After that, drive to Bologna. Go on Ducati factory tour and check out Piazzas Maggiore & Nettuno. Camp in Bologna.
Drive to the Mugello race track (Scarperia) and get tickets for the race. We then need to find somewhere nearby to camp for the next few days (the main Mugello tourism office in Borgo San Lorenzo). After we get sorted out, drive around the area looking at the old Medici villas and check out a few of the other sights.
Tour through the Mugello wineries. General sight-seeing once we've had enough wine (olive oil making, knife making, barrel making, etc.).
Yay!
Yay! After the race head to Lucca for the night.
Early morning start. Lots of driving today. Lunch at Diana Marina (near Imperia). Stop in Aix for a bit of sight-seeing. On to Marseille for sight-seeing, dinner and camping.
May spend a bit of time in Marseille (depending on how much we saw yesterday), but head out fairly early. Cross into Spain. yay! Stop in Figueres for lunch and to check out Dali museum. Need to find camp site when we arrive in Barcelona. First stop is El Masnou. If we can't get in there, try near the airport. Depending on what time we get settled, may do some sight-seeing.
Tourist day around Barcelona: Parc Guell, Maritime Museum, Chocolate Museum, History Museum, Absinthe Bar, etc.
Head to race circuit to collect tickets. There's free entry today for everyone with a 3 day ticket. Depending on how much there is to do at the track, may head back into Barcelona to be tourists.
Yay!
Yay!
Yay! Have a quick dinner after the race, and then head back to France. Stop for the night when we're tired.
Leave very early. Huge driving day on motorways. Stopping for rests, but no sight-seeing. Should make it to Paris late afternoon. Camping at Bois de Boulogne.
Not likely to feel like an early start! Maybe a good day for the Seine cruise. May just decide to sit in a park and watch the world go by.
Walking tours and any other things that catch our interest. So many things to fit in before we leave tomorrow!
Get everything packed up and organised in the morning. Maybe go out for a nice lunch before heading off to return van and fly home (Avis will drive us to airport). Fly out at 3:30 pm.
